Personal Development

At St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, we promote the extensive personal development of pupils so that they have access to a wide, rich set of experiences. Our aim is to broaden their perspective and open their eyes to people, places and cultures beyond their immediate experience. We want to expose children to a diverse world and give them the skills, attitudes and empathies to be successful in it. We want children to leave us prepared for life in modern Britain.

We aim to develop a sense of ownership, responsibility, and leadership among pupils by providing them with meaningful roles and responsibilities within the school community. By empowering students and promoting their active engagement, we can enhance their personal development, promote a positive school culture, and improve overall academic achievement. Some of our pupil responsibility roles are head pupils, prefect, Mini-Vinnies, buddies and the school council.

We help to develop pupils talents and interests. One of the ways we do that is through a range of clubs. These vary across the year according to the children’s interests. The current menu is:

We aim to develop children’s cultural capital so they have opportunities for visits and experiences which broaden their experience and develop their understanding of the world.
